Local Jail and Court Contacts

The Sheriff is the first contact for present county-jail custody, the last local disposition, or a written booking and release record. Published public-counter hours and a Sheriff FOIA email were not found, so call before visiting or mailing a time-sensitive request.

Court records can explain the legal event behind a release. The 98th District Court, reached at 906-884-2865, handles misdemeanors and early felony proceedings. The 32nd Circuit Court and County Clerk use 906-884-4255 for felony adjudication and sentencing records. Both county pages place the offices on the courthouse second floor. Court files are requested from the clerk under judicial access rules, not Michigan FOIA.

Michigan Release and Supervision Contacts

State-prison parole, discharge, and felony supervision belong to MDOC. Search OTIS first, then use the relevant office for a record or a correction.

The MDOC FOIA process is the official route for releasable departmental records not supplied by OTIS. MI-VINE is available at 800-770-7657, with TTY service at 866-847-1298. Crime victims seeking the additional state-prison notice layer can contact MDOC Crime Victims Services at 877-886-5401.

Choose the Right Record Path

Use the office that created the record. These routes keep county jail, state supervision, and federal custody from being mixed together:

• For a named release or county release record, use the home search and records process, then contact the Sheriff.
• For state post-release supervision, use Parole / Probation and the local MDOC office.
• For a same-day event, use Released Last 24 Hours; Ontonagon has no verified public feed.
• For state-prison dates, use Inmate Release Date and OTIS.
• For custody alerts, use the VINELink Release Check.
• For a federal sentence, use BOP. For an immigration handoff, use ICE.
